PikMyKid from a school with 1000 students

Comentarios: Overall, PMK has been amazing to work with. Any issue that I have had on a parent's end has been resolved in less than 15 minutes via e-mail and less than 5 if I've had to call PMK. They have called or e-mailed multiple times to check in and see how our transition has gone. (going from 4 elementary's to 1) From a tech support side, they have been super easy to deal with and very easy to get a hold of.

I like the number of features it has. While currently we are basically just using the after-school dismissal system, there are other features that we would like to implement as well full time if we can get parents to download the system.

Contras:

I wish there was a way to link siblings together and not have to manually enter each one by number. There may be a way to do this, but I am unaware of it.

Our school loves PikMyKid!

Comentarios: PikMyKid has helped us keep our students safe. Before we had the system our students would wait outside for parent pickup. We are in Arizona so temperatures can reach over 110 degrees which is dangerous for anyone to be outside. There was also much chaos during driveline. Now, our students and staff stay indoors during driveline and parents don't need to get out of their cars. They just announce they have arrived and their child is sent to them. Our stakeholders love it and so do we!

The implementation team and support team has been wonderful. The've been with us every step of the way through implementation and beyond! Huge shout out to [SENSITIVE CONTENT], and the rest of the team!

Contras:

We didn't have any dislikes for the system. The only thing that comes to mind is manually updating staff when using an API. But that being said, it is a pretty simple process to do so.

Pikmykid app has streamlined our parent pick up system during a pandemic. We needed a safe and reliable way to get students to their parents/guardians quickly because of the large number of students being picked up in the short time. I am thankful we have this program in place.

Contras:

The software doesn't constantly link with our opperating system and so we have to manually enter new students. I think it would also be easier for the system to already have the next student number in place so that we don't have keep track of the next students number.

Easy To Use Dismissal Program

Comentarios: We love PikMyKid! It makes our lives so much easier and gives us that little bit of extra structure to have a successful pick up process at the end of the day.

We needed a better system to manage our childcare center's dismissal system to accommodate our 600 child capacity. It is also a great system to help manage alternate pick ups if someone other than a parent is picking up the children.

Minor issue, but I feel a better table of contents would assist with deciding which report to pull for my needs.

Best way to dismiss students!

Comentarios: Our dismissal procedures are MUCH safer and can be audited! Things are much more streamlined while simultaneously increasing safety.

The software is relatively easy to use and very reliable. It's helped increase the safety and security of our K-5 dismissal procedures.

Contras:

Some parts of it can be a bit inflexible. Some updates in the past have caused issues; however, they were always quick to communicate workarounds and fixes.

Great experience with PikMyKid

Car line magic

Comentarios: PikMyKid has already helped us shave time off our daily carline and we hope that we can trim it down even further. Teachers can project the carline queue onto screens in their room, so students can begin packing up before their name is called.

We love that parents are able to use the app to mark students absent or to delegate their pickup to someone else. When parents mark their child absent in the app, we can skip the phone call when reconciling attendance. We have also made use of the messaging capabilities to let parents know when athletic practice had to be cancelled for some reason or other.

Contras:

I wish there was an easy way to add a kid to a parent or drive who has already announced themselves. Sometimes we get last minute calls from parents who have missed the delegation cut off and it would be easier to just add a kid or kids to a specific student, rather than deleting someone already announced so that I can look them up and add them back with their carpool rider.

Comentarios: Our overall experience has been good with PikMyKid. It took a bit to get into the swing of it, but once we did it has helped a lot. The feature that allows the parents to change their child's mode of transportation has been a favorite for the front office staff. Being able to keep the students in the classroom until it's time for them to be dismissed has been a tremendous help for social distancing. One major improvement that we would like to see would be to easily identify a transportation change in the dismissal progress page. Some suggestions would be to highlight the student's name, or have an icon showing the change (example: car -> walker). Having the transportation changes EASILY identifiable on the dismissal progress page would be the biggest help that PikMyKid could offer.

We have only used this program for car riders, as the other transportation modes haven't been implemented. We love how fast it makes our car rider dismissal go. PikMyKid has helped a lot with phone management in the front office because the parents can make the transportation changes on their end. This system is also very helpful in social distancing since the teachers hold the students in their classroom until their parents are at the school to pick them up. Once we were able to get past the learning curve the system worked very well. However, the learning curve took a bit longer than expected though.

Contras:

We have struggled with EASILY identifying transportation changes on the classroom/teacher side of this program. We eventually were told of a report that could be set up and sent to the teachers so they could see transportation changes. Before we were told about this, the one screen the teachers worked off of was not clear as to who had a transportation change for that particular day. We continue to struggle with getting accurate transportation change updates. The app and/or website doesn't always work during dismissal time.

The customer service and support are amazing. They respond quickly and are extremely helpful in fixing any problems/issues we have. It is user friendly for administrators. It does reduce our dismissal time. When used correctly by parents, it can help ensure their child's safety.

Contras:

Unless everyone uses the system properly, it's not 100% effective. Every single parent has to use the application and use it properly otherwise there are problems at dismissal. Because of this, it never works perfectly. One big problem for our school, that really needs to be fixed, is that even if parents delegate their children, if the parent goes through car line and announces, their child will be announced even though they have been delegated to someone else. This is a problem for parents who delegate one child, but pick up another child themselves. If they go through the car line before the delegated person does, then both children, even the delegated child, will be announced. This is a huge problem for our school. Also, on the dashboard for admins, it would be nice to be able to sort the list of students by the columns available. If we could sort that list alphabetically by last name, it would be very helpful.

It's getting us through Covid...!

Comentarios: It is challenging to feel the need to "micromanage" everyone to this degree...but that is not PMK's problem... Drop off works, and it helps us know that parents have had to communicate with us about their child's health that day. And Pick up goes smoothly, kids are not wandering the halls because they know that their ride is waiting for the, Admin are looking for them at the front of the campus, and their teacher will not release them until they know that is the case.

It keeps cars in the parking flowing fairly consistently, we can quickly see who is on campus, and who saw them and marked them Present. Teachers all over the campus can see when to dismiss a specific kid. Parents are notified when their child is released from school.

Contras:

There are always a few parents who struggle with technology...and trying to help them...but life is challenging right now and we're trying to make as much of life work as possible... (((sigh))) One of my major dislikes with PMK is the fact that despite the fact that specific students are checked in the Live Dismissal Progress numbers are always inaccurate. Ours always says there are 387 kids needing to be dismissed, but that is the total number of students we have in the PMK system - not the total that we checked into the campus that morning. Is there a setting that we need to change to have that be accurate?! This aspect feels strange to me, because the whole point of the Check In process is to know exactly who is on campus. So, at what point does the system throw all students in as if they are all on campus?

It's very comprehensive. If all stakeholders are on board and using it appropriately, it's possible to know the dismissal plans/whereabouts of each and every student within about 7 seconds.

Contras:

There are a lot of small things that make PMK less user-friendly than we would like. You have to take absent students out of the system one-by-one, you need to log out and in each day in order to have updated dismissal plans (some teachers have a hard time with this), and it took a long time to get enough buy-in with all of our stakeholders for it to truly be effective.

Comentarios: I guess I'm old school and prefer the "old way" of doing dismissal because of direct people connection. I was able to meet and connect with parents/families at dismissal which helped immensely with my main job here at school . I try to quickly connect with the families in the cars but it's difficult to do while trying to be speedy. We're in the people business in schools and it just feels like another loss due to Covid and trying to "modernize" our system at the same time.

As with any new software that involves change for staff, students and families in a school district we had some hurdles to overcome for the first few weeks. Covid complications did not help this matter. That being said the pandemic forced all of us to change just about everything in the way we operate a school . This software worked well enough , once We adapted, the system was able to handle all the glitches that popped up .

Contras:

Since I am the person that checks in cars for pick up, there are sometimes glitches... 1) parents being unable to "announce" their student. I can see the app on their phones and the green announce button and they are pushing it and nothing happens ….2) names jumping from Announce queue to Active Line and back again 3)Inserting a student by hand and the Announce Student button never shows up or highlights...all causing a delay in the dismissal process. I know nothing is perfect and we've adapted to that as well...just slows the process.

Comentarios: PikMyKid has significantly improved our dismissal process. In the past, we used a custom-written Windows-based application to run dismissal, and it was definitely showing its age. PikMyKid has dramatically improved this for both buildings with its responsive, web-based dismissal management solution.

PikMyKid is very easy to use for teachers, administrators, and parents alike. It ensures dismissal is both efficient and safe. It also saves our staff time not having to deal with dismissal notes and random changes.

Their ability to integrate with other products like Student Information Systems is limited, and updating data in their system can be cumbersome.

Pikmykid a Success Story

Comentarios: Pikmykid has definitely stream lined our dismissal process. We have much fewer incidents of children being in the wrong place at the end of the day. Our teachers have a way of verifying who should be in their bus line, in real time. The office has a way of checking for changes for all classes, at any given time.

The software has dramatically reduced the number of phone calls we field in regards to dismissal, especially at the end of the day. The parents really appreciate the ability to make changes at any time right from their phone, or from work, without having to make a call to our office.

Contras:

I don't like that if a student moves out of the district and I delete the student from the system, and then the student returns to the district and I have to enter them as a new student - instead of just reactivating them from a stored data base.

Great program that is up-to-date for the changing environment.

We have been using PikMyKid for many years now and find that it has really helped with our dismissal process. PMK made some very exciting upgrades to help schools during the COVID-19 crisis. We were able to make our own questions that parents needed to answer before they dropped of their child for the day. After using this for a while, we realized our questions were too general for the situation. It was very easy for us to go back in and change those questions, both English and Spanish. Dismissal is a breeze and quiet! We would recommend PMK to any school who has a need for an easy, organized dismissal system.

Contras:

It is hard to find a "con" with this program.

While the customer satisfaction reps are GREAT, I wish there was a way to upload corrections to the database. I also wish that rather than using their generated "School ID Number", that the primary key for students was the actual student number issued by the state.

We do have the ability for schools to use their own ID numbers for students, but mostly recommend against it for security purposes (used in the app for pick up, can be displayed on car-tags for quick lookup etc) and also length of numbers could effect efficiency in some cases during dismissal. Comentarios: Feedback, assistance, and check-ins from PikMyKid stay has been incredible. Every year we prepare and maintain our portal with great accuracy and this enabled a much safer and efficient dismissal process than years past when we were without PikMyKid and dismissal was chaotic.

Being able to assign each student a number and the ability for parents to access the information for their child ensures a very safe and smooth process. We are assured that students are being picked up by authorized individuals and dismissal p are accurate up to the day and times.

Contras:

We are a school that offers after-school clubs so we actually have 3 different dismissal times. We have had some difficulties with parents being able to announce and for school personnel being able to dismiss students from the system as dismissal schedules can be complex.

Comentarios: My overall experience has been positive! To my knowledge, when we have had software glitches, they have neem reported and answered/fixed in a timely manner. My role for PikMyKid is a dispatcher and I like the set up of the app overall.

Once PikMyKid was established and all users understood how the app worked, the software has been very easy to use! The dismissal process is very smooth and allows communication between teachers and the staff dismissing students to their cars accessible. As long as we have the correct staff/users in place to work the PikMyKid process, our carline runs very smoothly no matter the weather outside. I really like this software and would recommend it to users that are looking to efficiently dismiss students.

Contras:

The most difficult part of the software was changing procedures and introducing the app to staff and to parents. Staff was not given enough training on how to use the app, and it took several weeks before we were able to get a smooth process for carline. Parents had to take an action and register their children to the correct defaulted carline, which also seemed to be a process. When there are changes to dismissal time and no after-school programs offered, parents also have to make this change in the app. When they do not, the process for carline is longer because the app will not allow the Dispatcher to change the student name and place them in the correct line. At times, the software malfunctions or glitches which can cause a delay in the dismissal process.

"Makes dismissal a snap!" from Teacher

Comentarios: I use this product as a teacher and a parent. Once you learn how to use it, and from a parent's perspective, where you need to be in line to check-in; our school wisely put up a stop sign that says "PIKMYKID check in here," it works wonderfully. It is easy to see in real-time how a car/parent is moving through the lines so we can quickly and safely get students where they need to be. There was a ramp-up time of a few weeks, but now that we've been using it all school year, things are going quite well.

I can quickly see every student and where they need to be. The real-time aspects of the dismissal and dispatcher view are excellent. I can broadcast it in my classroom and students can see when and where they are in line, allowing for a quick and efficient dismissal process. Parents or school staff can update students pick up in real-time, allowing for last-minute changes for activities,

Contras:

It took a while to learn how to correctly use the features, and which dashboard to be on to be able to accurately dismiss students from the classroom. You need to have robust parent training as well to ensure that parents only use the check-in feature when they are in line...or your dismissal will be off.

Easy to implement, easy to sustain

Roll-out was stress-free. PikMyKid had prepared videos and PDFs to train both faculty and parents on how to use it. I spent zero time creating how-to documents! PikMyKid offers the ability to have a Spanish translation. The product is quite customizable! You can customize the alerts the teachers receive, the alerts that go home to parents (I especially love the notification for parents who have not yet filled out the morning health screener!), the check-in questions, and more! PikMyKid support has been super helpful and timely in their responses to both me and and the parents at my school.

Contras:

We did encounter a few mistakes with student grades/phone numbers from the file we sent for PikMyKid to upload. While it was only a few students, we didn't know about it until it was in front of us and a problem. However, they were quick, easy fixes. The check-in feature is not that intuitive. After clicking the blue "check-in" button, then the parent has to also click the check mark by their child's name. Most parents think the check mark just means that they checked in successfully.

Works Great!

Comentarios: Peace of mind. We now know exactly where our students are. Communication is better, and interrupting the classroom with change of dismissal for individual students is a thing of the past.

I wish the parents could have a web portal as well instead of forcing them to use an app. Also, you need to make sure you have good wifi outside for checking parents in. Once that is done, you are all set!

Efficient and easy to use!

Comentarios: PikMyKid has allowed us to streamline our dismissal process. We need fewer people to help supervise the students outside since we have fewer students waiting at one time. In addition, the app has cut out all the phone calls in the afternoon, freeing up our office staff to tend to other matters.

Launching PikMyKid was very easy to do. Our parents love the efficiency and only having students who are "announced" outside in the carpool line means we need less supervision during carpool time. We used to get lots of phone calls at the end of the day with parents changing their afternoon schedule and our office staff having to send messages to the classrooms, making dismissal time quite busy. We no longer get phone calls! Parents simply change their schedule on their app and the teacher is able to direct the students to the proper dismissal area, cutting out all the back and forth communication. Especially this year, with COVID, we are able to stagger our dismissal to keep the cohorts separate and it has helped us tremendously with our ability to open school, in-person.
