I am basically a 3 month seasonal business and pay $1440.

Great experience, always something new to learn.
Comentarios: Staying on the forefront of technology, we are able to stay ahead of our competitors and provide our customers with professional services. The enhanced technologies allows us to better track our inventory and communicate easier in and around the organization. This software is the lifeline of our business.

I love how the company is continuously updating their programs and new technology is always being introduced to us consumers.
Contras:
There is an additional cost to every facet of the system, but in the long run well worth the investment.

Point of Rental - the biggest gamechanger in our companies history!
Comentarios: We used to use several different, non-integrated, software products to get our quoting, bookings and invoicing done. Switching to POR where all the features we needed were integrated improved our office and shop efficiency to an extent that we didn't foresee.
Puntos a favor:
The ability to program and manage dynamic packages for our tent inventory was huge for us! The support we've received over the decade of being with POR has been excellent overall. Investing in this software really was a turning point in our companies growth and is something I wished we had done sooner.
Contras:
We do not appreciate the current subscription model of the software. When we initially joined we were able to purchase our user licenses or modules, now for additional users or modules we are leased them.

Not a good choice if you customers pay 30-60 days
Puntos a favor:
Ease of use once you get used to operating the system make a rental happen in moments. The tracking of the hours in and out is also nice.
Contras:
This is one of my only complaints with POR. Currently you are unable to send customers monthly statements for all past due invoices. Once you have selected the invoice for monthly statement you are no longer allowed to add it to next month's statement if the bill has still not been paid. This is a huge accounting nightmare that quite honestly is ridiculous it was not a standard feature when the program was built. We now have to build an excel spreadsheet and add all the unpaid invoices each month costing us more time and money that we hoped to save.

Travis, thanks for the review! I've got great news for you - As of the last release of Essentials: "We now have a setting that gives you the ability to not only bill for contracts that have never had statements run on them, but also for the old ones that customers haven't paid yet. And just as cool, it shows the previous statement for each of those "rebilled" contracts." So hopefully you can now scrap Excel from this process. Check your release notes for more information. =) -Brian P.S. If you're not using Essentials, Expert and Elite have had this functionality for a long time; please contact support for help in setting that up.
Point of Rental Essentials is essential to our business
Comentarios: Implementing Point of Rental Essentials years ago as our rental software transformed our business like no other software or system. It is a critical part of our business operations and will be for the foreseeable future.

Being able to quickly create quotes in Essentials, adding the items and services the customer requests, and moving that contract through the reservation, order, and receiving stages, is critical to our business.Creating kits of items like tents, audio-visual gear for specific types of jobs, and items that must go together, like an oven and a propane tank, is efficient and effective.
Contras:
There are limitations in the payment processing and connecting that to our accounting that make it necessary for us to use work-arounds.Creating and working with customers who all work for the same company also doesn't work very effectively, making it so we go ahead and create many customers for the same company and just try to remember to make all the settings the same.

Equipment management which includes all the associated consumables.
Contras:
when adding new equipment to an open contract the software does not autofill the associated equipment for the new item e.g. A new hire contract for tower scaffolding will autofill the associated components but if an additional tower is added the software does not autofill the components required.There is no feature to invoice cash customers monthly for equipment on hire.

Environmental Rentals

It contains a broad spectrum of Rental Management Reports, and functional reservation methodologies.
Contras:
The only short comings I experienced with the software is that the excel downloads were not written to properly align column rentals. We need to provide critical reports annually to our accounting firm and a lot of time is wasted cleaning up aliging column headings.We use the Item Categories for Marketing purposes.Item types need to be expanded to make integration to sales tax software easier.Make an item type for Externally Purchased ServicesMake an item type for Freight it distorts Sales Values .Your item type breakouts feed the Standard POR Sales Tax Report.We customized a Sales tax report to put |DEL keyed items into separate columns, but an item type breakout would better integrate Freight for State Sales Tax Matrixes.You should implement the Rental Bookings report I mapped out for POR 11 years ago. We have been using it and I speced it completely for ypu.

Point of Rental for the Equipment Rental Industry
Comentarios: Overall, our experience has been very positive. We have had our own growing pains as a company, and POR has stuck with us through it all, adapting our software modules as our own needs have changed. While there are a few things we would like to see function differently/better, overall, it is a great software program at a great value and they truly understand the equipment rental industry.

LOVE that the program is Windows based and overall easy to use. Many features have been updated and added and the ongoing updates following customer input and feedback are extremely helpful. Being able to utilize the program in a "training mode" is also key when bringing on new personnel.
Contras:
Point of Rental has experienced tremendous growth in the last few years. When we first acquired the software, calling in for support was no issue, and a person always answered the phone. Now, calling in for support takes you to a switchboard and you often have to leave a message and wait for a reply, and due to the growth, it sometimes takes lengthy time to get the right support person to help resolve your issue.

We're also working on making scalable support solutions - more knowledge base articles, video tutorials in uLearn, full training courses. Our goal is that when you do need to contact us, it'll be easier to get ahold of someone who can help you quickly. Good software, still buggy
Comentarios: The software has benefited our company greatly. I have no experience with other rental programs so I do not have a reference, but I have been satisfied with POR.

I like the ability to find items that are not always easily found. I like that there are multiple ways to do things so there is a lot of flexibility.
Contras:
There are some big bugs that affect business. Credit card processing, which may not be POR's fault gets messed up constantly which doesn't allow to close for end of day. The support team is always hard to connect to. They are usually very helpful when you do finally connect, but connecting is the challenge. There are several bugs that don't let the correct buttons show up. There are more steps on Elite than on Expert to do the same things. It constantly disconnects from something and has to reconnect. Screens will bounce back and forth from foreground to background. There are plenty more things wrong I cannot think of.

Excellent - Once You Learn It
Comentarios: Been using the software for 10 years now, wouldn't want to try anything else. For an intermediate-advanced computer user, the software is amazing. For most beginners, it is a struggle to learn and maintain.

We are able to run 80% of our business completely using POR, however the 20% that we want to include and/or improve upon is difficult to figure out, as it is very difficult to find articles/help tasks to self teach, and the support team of POR is so busy it takes a long time to get answers from them!
Contras:
Very few training features - we have to incorporate internal company knowledge and printouts for all new hires, which is very time consuming. Very few important suggestions of UInnovate seem to happen, other than being noted as considered for future implementation.

We recognize that with such a robust software, it can take a while to get people trained up on it - we recently developed and rolled out uLearn (which builds on NetHelp by adding some additional search features and new video tutorials). It sounds like you'll also be excited to learn that we're in the process of rolling out a Learning Portal, which will have training and certificate processes so you're able to assign new hires coursework for self-paced learning. =D -Brian
Point of Rental
Comentarios: We wanted to use point of rental as our first rental management software. The first couple meetings were great and it seemed like a no brainer to go with them. After we paid and had our implementation team import all of our data, it was then up to us to figure it out. I felt like there was no support on using the software in our day to day business.

The user interface operated very smooth, and was overall a quick product.
Contras:
Their customer service aspect. It was impossible to get ahold of anyone, and issues usually took 1-2 weeks to get resolved.

We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience with our product fell short of your expectations. In the year since you've stopped using the product, we have addressed our support challenges with several different organizational and technological solutions which have sped up our response time and helped prevent cases from falling through the cracks; perhaps it's time for another look?
Used to love them
Comentarios: Always loved their support staff, quick to respond and most often fixed the issue or could show you how it happened, rarely had to contact them as the system ran pretty smoothly, the updates install themselves so no need to get everyone out of the system for upgrades. In the last year, they have changed so much, and often switch it back, and it no longer works properly, updates have to be done manually, screens have changed, support is non-existent, email and wait a week for a reply, if that. Been working on an issue now since last August, just gets worse instead of fixed and no reason why it is happening.

Loved the software when I got it, training module is fantastic, ability to learn it easily is great, input is quite simple and usually fixable if you make a mistake, handles multiple locations, does depreciation.
Contras:
Resale parts handling, reporting, receiving, pricing, inventory counting.

Razones para elegir Point of Rental Software: Hated their windows software, never worked, spent most of the first year on the support line 40 hours per week. Impossible to use their product.

Comentarios: the software is great overall, the tech help has always been quick at getting back to us. POR has helped us greatly in looking after our inventory in retail and rental.

The ease of the ability to edit and change item details, customer details, orders, etc.
Contras:
When the credit batch does not match at end of day and some of the accounting options. Sometimes it gets stuck on a customer when the ID matches another user in the system. How it doesnt always recognize an existing customer when we import an online quote.

The in's and out's of POR

Contras:
There is no "return needs checked out" function for when rental equipment comes back. If you complete the contract, the equipment comes right back to available. What about a time delay after completing the contract (so you can get the customer finished up/handled), but then to get the equipment back to "available", it needs to be sent to a "returned needs checked" waiting screen. Then the mechanics or shop lead would close that out after it's been checked out, verifying it is actually ready to rent..

Top level support!
Comentarios: We needed to create an integration with POR that allowed us to provide data via the AEMP specification. We were able to do so in a few days; largely due to the high level of support we received from them. They were very engaged with us at every step and answered all our questions promptly. We now have multiple happy customers and are looking forward to adding more. Thank you POR Support!

This software is massively over priced and is not cut out for fence rentals.
Comentarios: There were no benefits whatsoever

The only positive of this system was the dispatch integration. This was a good system that functioned well with routing our trucks for their daily installations.
Contras:
Way overpriced. If you are having reservations about the cost of this listen to your gut. System looks archaic. The architecture looks like software from the 1990's. The estimating process is slow and cumbersome. You are forced to enter a complete order by using a series of tabs instead of simply entering everything on one screen as in modern software. There are many quirks that slow you down as well as password and user ID issues, printing issues, etc. POR allows you to access the software in test mode before you purchase which we did. The problem is when you access in test mode you have no clue what you are looking at and you have no guidance from POR until you cut a check. A VERY LARGE CHECK. The on site training provided was done by a very knowledgeable guy but it was not enough to get us up and running with confidence. The biggest disappointment is that our company feels deceived. We were told that this would integrate with Quickbooks which it barely does. It will only tell quick books a lump sum of sales per day, nothing else. Our quick books really became useless to us. Our company was also told that there were other fence rental companies that used their product and that we'd be able to contact them to hear about their experience with POR. After making several requests for this info it was never provided. We assume that POR was lying about this.

David, I apologize for taking so long to respond; I just got the email notification for this review from Capterra a little while ago. We're sorry to hear you feel that way. When Tina posted her review, our support team sent emails to try to explain how to fix the issues she was having; since we didn't get a response and you're citing some of the same issues, perhaps those messages didn't get through? We're committed to fixing the issues in the relationship between POR and Driven Fence as quickly as possible. One of our managers will be calling you this afternoon to try to help you get the most out of your software, advise on some best practices, and hopefully address your grievances.
Customer Support used to be great, now you can't get them on the phone!

In the last 6 months:
1. we can't get anyone to call us back after we leave a message for support - they are always too busy to help us when we call in.
2. we can't get them to help us with new issues - such as scanning a new drivers license (POR blames the scan company, the scan company blames POR). We were sold on your system in large part due to this feature - and now we won't be able to use it!
3. today we got someone who had an attitude that was really not needed on the phone - when I asked to speak with someone else to help us, I had to request this 3x before she would agree to let me speak to someone else.

Great features for our industry. Used to love the way we could scan in a drivers license or info and photo, but now we don't have that option for the new MN drivers license. Like that the website automatically updates from information we input about our inventory!
Contras:
Redundant features - having to click many times to close a contract when it is a simple close with no changes.

Nice interface, poor customer support
Comentarios: I really want to like this application/software as is is easy to use and well though through, but there are many glaring issues that are driving me to look elsewhere.

No easy way to quickly look at availability for the coming week. I found this frustrating when I had a customer on the phone and we wanted to get a snapshot of availability. Customer support is awful if you are not one of their Expert or Elite customers. I only have the Essentials package and the one person I actually got a hold of said she could not help me and to send an email. I had already set two before this call to no avail. The funny thing is I want to add features and possibly switch to a different/higher package. I am also not impressed with their website integration. I have my own wordpress site and all they offer is an iframe. This is not an integration, it is placing another website on a page in your website. They really need to work on providing better integration.

Hi Eric! Thanks for the (mostly) positive review. Item availability is most easily accessed via the item screen - you can see availability not just for the week, but for the entire month of each item you rent. Hopefully that helps! Essentials' customer service is comparable to that of other cloud-based rental softwares; part of what makes the software so affordable is that customer service is entirely web-based. That said, you should be receiving responses to emails within a day (depending on when you send the email; usually it'll take less time). If you'd like to switch packages, add features, or just check out a demo, our sales team is back from our annual conference and would be happy to work with you to figure out how to get us back on track. -Brian

If we had a little more ability to correct things without customer support it would be easier than calling and waiting on the line, while customer support is always great it would be nice to just be able to fix it on our own within the software.
